Goldkey Partners with IFC for EDGE Net Ready Competition

On June 2, 2022, Goldkey Properties, in collaboration with The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, launched the EDGE Net Ready Competition in Ghana. This initiative was aimed at fostering innovation and promoting sustainability in the built environment by engaging university students and professionals.

The competition featured two distinct categories. The first, a Green Design Competition, encouraged architecture and engineering students to showcase their understanding of sustainable design and green building principles. Using the EDGE App and insights from the Design for Greater Efficiency (DfGE) course, students were tasked with creating innovative green building designs that emphasized energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

The second category called upon professionals to submit real-world projects or retrofitted buildings that could demonstrate efforts towards achieving a net zero energy status. A net zero building is defined as a structure that generates as much energy as it consumes over a year, significantly reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to sustainable urban development.

The 12-week competition culminated in an exciting awards ceremony on October 7, 2022, where the winners from both categories were announced and celebrated for their creativity and commitment to green building practices.

Goldkey Properties, known for its dedication to sustainability, has already earned recognition for its efforts in green building initiatives. The company has successfully achieved EDGE certifications for two of its prestigious developments: Cannon House and PwC Tower. The EDGE certification, operated by the IFC, is an internationally recognized green building standard that rewards developers for implementing strategies to reduce energy and water consumption, as well as minimize the embodied energy in building materials.

This collaboration with the IFC and the EDGE competition further underscores Goldkey’s commitment to shaping a sustainable future through innovative design and building practices, making significant strides towards eco-friendly development in Ghana.
